When it’s cold outside it can be tempting to fall into a bit of a style rut. When you’re basically living in huge coats and oversized sweatshirts, worrying about the rest of your outfit can feel a bit… pointless. But, we’re here to tell you that off-duty dressing is bigger than ever, and nailing the style this winter is as easy as ever. We’ve teamed up with everybody’s favourite babe, Lissy Roddy, to give you all the casual outfits inspo you need to nail off-duty:
1. Cover up in a coat
Don’t let your outerwear be an afterthought. It’s been about 167 days since we last left the house without a coat on, and it’s only going to get colder for the foreseeable. If you’re basically going to be living in your jacket, you may as well base your outfit around it. Puffer coats are still big news this year, and they’re perfect for nailing those casual vibes. They add fashion points to any outfit, AND they feel like you’re wearing your duvet out and about, which is always a bonus when it’s minus 2.
2. Oversize everything
Shirt dresses are a wardrobe staple all year thanks to their versatility and it’s bigger the better when it comes to sizing. Oversized is always the answer and adds a fashion edge to your look. Go vintage with a denim dress like Lissy, or opt for khaki and nude to nail this season’s must-have colour palette. Wear your shirt dress with over the knee boots for a more dressy affair, or just throw on some trainers for every day. If it’s super cold outside, wear yours over a graphic tee for laidback layering.
3. Make it about mom jeans
In every gal’s dress-down ‘drobe there HAS to be a trusty pair of jeans you can wear with anything. Fed up with your skinnies? Step up… Mom jeans, the 90s classic that’s been making a comeback in recent years. This style is flattering on any shape, accentuating your waist and skimming over your thighs. You can mix and match your jeans with anything, from crop tops to oversized knitwear – Meaning these jeans can take you from chilling to evening drinks in a heartbeat.
4. Sweatshirt styling
Sweatshirts and hoodies aren’t just for hungover days when you’re not leaving the house. They can be elevated for day to day wardrobe easily and will have you staying warm and looking hot. Tuck your oversized hoodie into your jeans to avoid disappearing in the outfit, and go OTT with your accessories to make a style statement. You can wear this look with trainers for laidback casual, but try it on with heels for an alternative night-out look that’s minimum effort.
5. Match it back in co-ords
We’re major fans of simple styling, and is there anything simpler than matching tops and trousers? Casual clothing at its best, co-ords take the stress out of choosing your outfit and leave you safe in the knowledge you’re going to look fire. Knitted styles are perfect for the colder weather. Wear wide leg or flared trousers with the matching hoodie or crop top. Or mix it up a bit and wear your co-ord pieces as separates to get more mileage out of your wardrobe.
