Festival season might be around the corner, but if risking wet weather to sleep on a blowup bed inside a wobbly tent isn’t your idea of a good time, then fear not, there are plenty of other ways to experience the cutting edge of new music -clubbing abroad at the hottest venues the world’s coolest cities have to offer!
London – Visions
For a taste of the underground, head to late night Dalston basement hotspot Visions. Favourite haunt of grime god Skepta, it’s famed for its mix of bass heavy bangers and twerk-inducing cuts. With the ceilings low and the crowd close, expect the vibe to be heady with the scent of rum sweats and for things to get wavey very quickly, so you’ll need a good dose of stamina to make it all the way through to 6 a.m.
Berlin – Berghain
The exclusivity which surrounds techno fan fave Berghain is all down to its mysterious door policy, with entry policed by bouncers who’ve become famous in their own right. Once you’re in the former power plant building, renowned for its wild hedonism as much as the music, you’ll have to check your phone in, so no selfies here, but your memories are bound to surpass any pics you might have taken, so roll with it.
Paris – Silencio
If you fell in love with the atmospheric confusion of Mulholland Drive, then you’ll love Silencio, the Parisian members club catering to bijou creatives, as designed by David Lynch. Channeling clubbing epochs and places as wide ranging as 18th century London and Studio 54, the venue is as eclectic as its clientele. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a 24-seat cinema, a library and a smoking room to keep your senses satiated.
Amsterdam – Chicago Social Club
For a laid back clubbing experience in Amsterdam, you need to head to Chicago Social Club. Full of nooks and crannies, it’s Leidseplein’s only late license bar, with a club space which hosts an impressive variety of nights at least three times a week. The many staircases which connect the various areas make you feel like you’re in the middle of a labyrinth – rad!
New York – Output
Situated in the ever more hipster Williamsburg, Output is Brooklyn’s answer to Manhattan’s heavyweights; a near 500 capacity space with an impressive soundsystem and a wide range of events hosting both, underground DJs and prominent tastemakers, meaning whenever you hit the Big Apple, it’s likely to be the place to get down, with the summer months guaranteeing a good time to be had on the rooftop terrace.
