Pumpkin scale… We’ve ranked all of the movies on their fear factor
🎃 = Not too scary 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃= Super scary

Un-scary horror films

Hocus Pocus 🎃🎃

Easy watching, witches and 90’s nostalgia, what more could you ask for?

Rocky Horror Picture Show 🎃🎃🎃

Nothing is less scary than a sing along. Campy costumes and dancing, yes please.

Halloween Town 🎃

It’s a Disney Channel Original Movie, if you can’t handle that, there’s no hope for you…

Mean Girls (no pumpkins needed)

Okay, so it’s not technicalllllly Halloween, but Cadie’s iconic costume couldn’t go without an honourable mention

Coraline 🎃🎃🎃

Creepy stuff, but it’s a cartoon so it doesn’t actually count…right? The animation is just the right mixture of cute & scary.

Zombieland 🎃🎃🎃

Your classic awkward teen movie, but with zombies… Full of celebrity cameos and funny moments, it’s a must watch.

Quite scary horror films

A Quiet Place 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Jumpy as hell, but remember – don’t make a noise. This movie is full of super-intense moments, but probably won’t give you nightmares (not guaranteed).

Sixth Sense 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

It’s a classic! Full of ghosts and jump-scares. If you have managed to avoid spoilers your whole life, YOU’RE IN FOR A TREAT.

Creep 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

It’s a horror film for the indie movie generation. A little bit spoofy, a little bit serious, it’s filled with tense jumpy moments that will make you check under your bed before you go to sleep.

The Conjuring 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

This is your typical haunted house horror movie. It’s filled with things that go bump in the night. It’s not too gory, but it’s scary enough that you may need a pillow at hand to hide behind.

IT Chapter 1 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

So, Pennywise the clown is pretty terrifying, but the film itself has some really funny moments. The kids in the movie offer a little light-hearted relief throughout.

Sh*t-your-pants scary

Hush 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

This film is a true white knuckle ride. With a strong female lead and a truly terrifying home invasion plot, it’s not for the faint hearted. This will 100% have you triple checking the front door is locked before you go to bed.

Insidious 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

From the founder of Saw, the insidious movies are less about the gore and more about the creepy ghost stories. We highly suggest watching an episode of Friends straight after to calm the nerves.

Scream 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

It’s an oldie but a goldie. Scream is the quintessential teen slasher movie and it just gets better with age. (Like a fine wine or cheese). It’s got Drew Barrymore and Courtney Cox, what more could you want from your horror film?

In The Tall Grass 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

When a brother and sister hear cries coming from the tall grass, they venture in to find something truly terrifying. This film has all the gore you could possibly ask for, jumpy moments and loads of action.

Gerald’s Game 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Gruesome and full of suspense, this movie follows the story of a woman who is trapped in bed after her husband has a heart attack on top of her. (That was not a spoiler, that it literally the premise of the whole film).

Bird Box 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Maybe not terrifying in the traditional sense, but this film will give you a constant case of the sweaty palms, from start to finish. Sandra Bullock navigates the elements without the power of sight.

We’ve given you more movies than you can binge in the space of a month, so happy watching. Discover your new favourite horror film from our list of recommendations.
