We caught up with singer, songwriter and all-round mega babe Tallia Storm ahead of her new single drop Still In Love (out today FYI) to chat musical inspo, dream collabs and what she’s got on the agenda for the rest of 2017…
Tell us about yourself…
I am an 18 year old Singer / Songwriter from Scotland, who’s obsessed with all things Bryson Tiller & J Cole. I sing R&B Soul with a pop twist.
I got discovered by Elton John when I was 13 years old when he invited me to open his football stadium concert in Glasgow in front of 18,000 people. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to perform all around the world for the likes of Eva Longoria and even Kate Moss at COACH Regent Streets store opening. I’m very lucky to have had such amazing support over the years, I go to speak at TEDxTeen thanks to Nile Rodgers and Nancy of the ‘We Are Family Foundation’ to then host the London conference 2 years later. I also have released a book called ‘POP GIRL’ based on the Elton John experience published by Scholastic, which is out now!!!
How would you describe your aesthetic and how does it inspire your music?
Eclectic with a sassy edge. I write all my own music with my writing partner so all of my songs have a real raw honesty to them. They are all based on my own experiences, growing up as an over dramatic teenager. For me its all about Story telling – music should tell stories. It’s a place for people to really be themselves and share their experiences.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met so far?
Bieber! I met him for the first time last year at Ed Sheehan’s after party for the MTV EMA’s in Milan. He was having the sickest party in his penthouse hotel suite, Martin Garrix, Ashley Benson and Mark Ronson were all there – surreal vibes. Bieber was super chill and super funny. He seemed like such a nice guy.
What’s the best gig you have ever played?
Obviously my first ever major gig has to be when I opened for Sir Elton John, but performing at Wembley arena for WE Day along side Shawn Mendes follows close behind. I live for performing live, nothing beats it. Me and my guitarist jamming away and I am content for hours.
Who would you like to collaborate with and why?
Drake or Nile Rodgers. I share the same lawyer with Drake so I’ve had the honour of meeting him backstage at his Scottish tour date – I gave him a copy of my album. He was such a lovely, down to earth guy. Nile has been such a huge supporter of me since I was 13 years old – just after the Elton gig, he got in touch and said he loved my sound and story and asked if I could speak and perform at his TEDXTeen conference in New York. Next thing you know i am hosting aTEDxTeen in London for him and he invited me onstage to jam at his SECC Hydro gig. I grew up listening to Chic, so it would be a dream come to true to collaborate.
Why do you think the relationship between fashion and music is so strong?
Nowadays we are surrounded by fashion everywhere we go, so it plays a strong role for every artist. For me I love incorporating the fashion into my music, by spicing up my performance looks and putting on a real show on stage. I love wearing bright colours, stepping outside boundaries and not being a ‘puppet’ to fashion.
What’s your favourite music video?
Alright – Kendrick Lamar.
Who did you listen to growing up?
My Dad plays Jazz Piano (along with many other instruments I must add) so when I was growing up I was surrounded by the sounds of the greats – I would be singing Ella, Dinah and Sarah when I was about 8 years old. These women were my idols. As I grew up I definitely felt a leaning towards this style of music far more so, than straight pop. i adore Amy Winehouse, Kendrick, Frank Ocean, John Legend, J Cole to Beyonce.
Who’s your biggest musical inspiration?
I love Amy Winehouse – she was very much a heavy inspiration to me but that started because of my love of Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald.

I would love to meet him one day. I also love Gigi Hadid. She’s wonderful. She’s been in the game so many years and she steps out of the box every time. She’s got a unique style and she’s gorgeous.
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
My sister Tessie styles me, so we have so much fun with it. We love seeing all the new designs on catwalks, so we take this to the high street for our style steals. We love opening up VOGUE and seeing what we can recreate with shops like MissGuided.
What best describes your style?
My style is still quite out there and a quirky, but it’s more sophisticated now that I’m older. I believe that fashion is a barometer of our cultural identity – it shapes who we are and defines our daily mood swings, that’s why I love to have fun with it. I think so many people are puppets to fashion and trends and are afraid of taking risks. I take risks all the time – sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.
What’s your favourite fashion trend this season and why?
Costume Goth. I was obsessed by the full-on dramatic, theatrical ensembles that paraded the fall runway. I live for all black outfits – nothing beats a black leather jacket.
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?
Bella Hadid. I think she is so effortlessly chic and always rocking the latest trends. I got the pleasure of meeting her at the LOVE Magazine party in November and she could not have been a nicer person.
You can only wear one outfit for the rest of the year, what is it?
Oooooh this is difficult, probably a statement T and boyfriend jeans. Dress it up – dress it down. You cant go wrong.
