We caught up with babe on the rise Aria to chat new music, fave albums and her new EP ‘Hope’…
Tell us about yourself…
Hey my name is Aria 🙂 I’m a musician/ songwriter. I grew up in Gloucestershire but moved to London at 18.
What does a day in the life of you look like?
I’m usually writing or recording, if not I try to do something everyday related to my craft i.e playing guitar or piano.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
So far… a headline show at the Hoxton square bar and kitchen, it was my first show after the release of my single Shot in the dark, the energy was amazing, it was cool to see so many had connected with the song and had come out to support.
Who did you listen to growing up?
Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Tears for Fears, Prince, Cocteau twins, Lykki Li, Bat for Lashes, kings of leon
What’s your guilty pleasure track?
Search for the Hero by M people, but I don’t feel guilty
What’s the last album you listened to all the way through?
Banks – Goddess
What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?
Honestly, just having the team I have around me is amazing. Both my manager’s Ross and Sandy have played integral part’s in the making of some fine records. Ross A&Rd London Grammar’s first record which is one of my favourite albums this side of the millennium and Sandy was involved in the first Temper Trap record. Having their guidance and support makes me really proud.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve worked with so far?
I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of amazing songwriters and producers, but this year I was lucky enough to go to Berlin and write with Martin Craft, I adored his latest album Blood moon so it was great to write with him, I learnt a lot.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve fallen in love with Anna and the North after catching her set at Hyde Park this year, BANKS, The Barr Brothers, Black Marble, Kings of Leon , HAIM and Lykki Li… so much more but I won’t go on.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?
You gotta really love and believe in what you do, take advice but always follow your gut instinct. I’ve been pursing music seriously since I was 16 so 7 years now, it’s a long road so patience, perseverance and belief in yourself is key. If you don’t believe in what you do no one else will.
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what is it?
RUMOURS – FLEETWOOD MAC or PURPLE RAIN by PRINCE (I can’t choose)
Where can we see you perform next?
18th October in London, details will be up soon 🙂
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017
Releasing my Debut E.P Hope, getting the live show together and start recording my second E.P.
