Winter Sun Holidays

by | January 21, 2019

Last summer almost feels like it never happened. As we’re battling through the wind and rain on the way to work, warming our icy fingers up on a takeaway latte, it’s hard to believe we were basking in a heatwave just 6 months ago. If you’re in serious need of some vitamin D, you don’t have to wait months for the sun to make an appearance in the UK. Why not head off on a last minute winter holiday? Here’s our list of our fave winter sun destinations:

Probably the most popular winter sun destination for Brits, Tenerife offers mild weather averaging 20°c – Even in the depths of winter, when there’s snow on the ground at home. This trip will also be kind on your bank balance, with a short flight time of about 4 hours meaning you won’t have to fork out for long-haul. Make sure to check out Los Gigantes and Anaga Rural Park for the chance to take some seriously breathtaking Insta snaps. The nightlife is world famous, too. Go for sophisticated cocktails in the many beachfront hotel bars, or party the night away in Las Veronicas.

If you’re looking for guaranteed daytime temperatures in the high twenties, then why not venture to The Gambia, West Africa’s smallest country. While the flights will cost you a bit more, prices are significantly cheaper than Europe for accommodation, food and drinks once you’re there. The main coastal resorts are Bakau, Fajara and Kotu – And picture perfect beaches line the coast of all three. If you’re getting bored of the beaches (nope, we can’t imagine it either) then why not head inland and try to sot some of this country’s exotic wildlife – Like monkeys, manatees, and even hippos.

Dubai is almost unbearably hot during the summer months, due to its desert location. That means that visiting between November and April could be the perfect compromise. Offering high temperatures in the mid to late 20s, you can look forward to sunbathing and swimming without being uncomfortable. This glamorous city has some of the most jaw-dropping architecture in the world, and its nightlife is world-renowned. Check out the Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building), and then head to one of the city’s many hotel bars – Keep an eye out for ladies’ days and nights to save some £££.

Yeah, you’re going to have to spend some pennies getting there – Plus the flight time can be upwards of 13 hours. BUT once you’re there, Thailand can offer you unbeatable beaches, amazing food, and bargain prices for accommodation. Head to the South of the country and embark on some island hopping to truly appreciate all Thailand has to offer. Whether you’re zenning out at a yoga retreat in Koh Samui, scuba diving in Koh Tao, or partying till dawn in Phuket, there’s something for everyone here. Indonesia is such a beautiful country and is made up of thousands of tiny islands – The most famous of these being Bali. Bali might just be the closest you can get to paradise on earth, with white sand beaches and turquoise blue seas. You can explore temples, sunbathe, and scuba dive. While there are still places to party if that’s what you’re after, Bali definitely has a more chilled out vibe than other places on this list.
