#inyourownskin: kadeeja khan| April 3, 2018
A part of our #KeepOnBeingYou series, we caught up with mega babe beauty blogger Kadeeja Khan (@emeraldxbeauty) about her top tips for being confident in your own skin. Kadeeja uses her Youtube channel and Instagram account to empower people to not only feel comfortable in their own skin but to love the skin they’re in. Kadeeja has suffered from acne since she was 12 years old, she posts photos both with and without makeup to show that she isn’t ashamed of what her skin looks like.
She uses makeup to enhance the features she already has, not to conceal or hide her features. Kadeeja is on a mission to empower people to be truly confident in the skin they’re in, check out her interview and photos below.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do
My names Kadeeja, I’m 21 years old & I’m a beauty blogger. I own the account @emeraldxbeauty on Instagram where I share my beauty tips.
What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty means being confident.
Why is confidence important?
Confidence can overpower anything! When you think you’re not good enough, if you have confidence you can do anything
How do you feel confident in your own skin?
I accept myself for who I am & learn that beauty starts from within. Everything else is secondary
Who inspires you?
This is a hard one. I don’t really feel like anyone inspires me. I feel that I learnt a lot from myself & my own experience. I had to power through & gain confidence myself without any help.
Do you have a life mantra or words that you live by?
‘Life is too short to be shy’.
What do you love most about yourself?
I love that I can feel how I want when I want. If someone says something nasty to me on the internet I can overcome it. I know my worth & nothing can bring my spirit down.
Why do you wear makeup?
I wear makeup to embrace my natural beauty. I don’t like to look like anyone else. I like to look like me just more enhanced!
What is your skincare routine?
Soap & water. Great soap that is haha
What would you say to other women and girls who also have acne?
I would say embrace it & never be ashamed of it. Love yourself regardless of what society shows you as “beautiful” or “perfect” we are all beautiful humans.
What positive changes in beauty standards do we need to see reflected in society?
I feel beauty brands need to change .. SOME NOT ALL .. they love to show perfect people advertising their products not realising that not everyone looks like that. It’s unrealistic.
Do you have a role model?
Not really. I think the biggest role model we should have is ourselves. We should be proud of who we are & learn from ourselves.
What would you say to your younger self?
I would say “Kadeeja there is nothing wrong with you” All my life, I’ve been bullied for how I look. I’ve had depression since high school that was mentally really difficult. I wish I had someone like myself today that could speak to me!
What is your goal for 2018?
To change the beauty game. Change the minds of what brands or people see as beauty. Into what beauty really is!
