AN INTERVIEW WITH SARAH ASHCROFT| August 31, 2016
Introducing Sarah Ashcroft x Missguided. We caught up with her ahead of launch to chat about the inspo behind the collection, her fave pieces and all about being a successful blogger…
Tell us how the collaboration with Missguided came about…
To me it was a match made in heaven. Missguided has always been the biggest influence in my blogging career and its safe to say about 70% of my wardrobe has a Missguided label on it. I have worked so closely with the brand since the very early days of my blog so to have my own collection with them is such a dream.
Describe your main inspiration behind the collection?
I wanted it to be my style to a tee and a lot of my style inspiration comes from celebrities like the Kardashians and the simplistic styling you come across on sites like Tumblr. Neutrals tones are what I live in so I kept that theme throughout the collection. My main aim of the collection was for people to look at each item and say something like “oh that is just so Sarah Ashcroft!”. I think when doing a collection with a brand if you get that reaction you have nailed it!
How did you choose the product?
The collection is basically made up of my 2 style personalities. I am either super dressed up or the total opposite and in trainers and hoodies but of course still wanting to look stylish. This made picking the items very easy. I went for cropped hoodies and lace up details joggers etc for the days when you want to be comfy but still look on point. Then on the flip side I chose pieces like the satin duster jackets and bodycon dresses for the girly girl in me.
What kind of girl did you have in mind when collaborating on the collection?
I always have my followers in mind when I do anything around my blog. I do this because I feel like they are just like me and I just want fashion forward pieces that make you look and feel great!
What was your favourite thing about the whole process?
I would say working with a brand that I feel best represents me has just been amazing as a whole but definitely deciding what was going to be in my collection was amazing and then seeing the final samples was just such a dream.
What are your favourite pieces and why?
I love the grey satin duster jacket as it is such a staple. It’s so versatile and can be worn day or night, it also looks and feels so luxe and expensive. I also LOVE the backless faux suede mini dress, it fits like a glove and the colour is so beautiful.
Where would you wear some of the key pieces from the collection?
I think the lace up joggers are perfect for those days where you have loads of errands to run or want to just chill with friends. The pink satin wrap dress is perfect if you want a wow factor dress for a special occasion and I love the mesh bodies for a dinner date or night at a cocktail bar as they are sophisticated sexy.
What do you love most about being a blogger?
Inspiring girls to look and feel fab every day! And of course all the insane opportunities I get to travel the world and my MG collection of course!!!
What opportunities has being a blogger opened up for you?
There is honestly too many to count! I feel extremely blessed everyday to be doing what I am doing and never take anything for granted.
How would you describe your own style?
I would say its simplistic with a hint of Kardashian. My idea of a perfect outfit is a white tee, jeans and Superstars.
What’s your go-to outfit for a night out?
Definitely a bodysuit and high waisted jeans!
If there were 8 days in a week, what would you do with the extra day?
SLEEP!! I know that sounds boring but I am always so busy I would love a day to just stay in bed and do nothing!
What 5 things can’t you live without?
Phone, Beauty Blender, diary, high waisted jeans and red monster munch
Who’s your main style inspiration?
Biggest girl crush?
What’s your jam RN?
Literally anything Chris Brown, I am OBSESSED with his music
Can you tell us a bit about what your job is all about?
That’s such a hard question as explaining what a blogger does is impossible but I would say it is about providing daily inspiration that is realistic and achievable to the people who follow you.
What does a normal day look like for you?
There is no such thing as a normal day in my life as every day is different but a day in my week normally starts with a sesh in the gym with my PT, then breakfast. Normally porridge and eggs (not mixed together may I add!). If it’s a blogging day I will then spend about a hour and half getting ready before heading up to London to meet my photographer to shoot some new looks for my blog. I then drive back home for either a meeting or to sit down and answer my emails. By 9 o’clock if I don’t have an event I try to switch off my computer and chill for the rest of the evening (still checking my social media obvs!).
What are the biggest challenges being a blogger?
Essentially giving up your ‘normal’ life. Blogging full time becomes you whole life so you have to submerge yourself into it in every way. I actually broke up with my ex over my blog because I spent so much time on it, so getting a work life balance can be super hard, but I love it so wouldn’t have it any other way.
Do you have any advice for those wanting to become a full-time blogger?
To always be yourself! I see way too many girls starting blogging these days who lack authenticity and creativity. This will get you no where as people will love you for you, not someone your pretending to be.
What’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to and why?
It would have to be the Maldives, it was an absolute dream. Pretty much the definition of paradise.
