Interview With Female Impersonator: Saline| July 5, 2017
We caught up with Saline, a Manchester based female impersonator, to talk style, empowerment, feminism and careers.
My name is Saline and I’m a Manchester based female impersonator.
Describe your style in 4 words
Luxury, exaggerated, timeless, glamour
What is your life motto?
Kill them with success and bury them with a smile.
Who and what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the supermodels of the 80’s and 90’s. Jerry Hall, Studio 54. My drag is inspired by powerful females,
If you had one piece of advice for your younger self, what would it be?
Worry less, live more. Life is exciting.
Tell us your dirtiest secret?
I would NEVER.
What does empowerment mean to you?
In terms of drag and growing up through a fairly difficult and challenging childhood and adolescence, I was always very much inspired by powerful females. I think growing up I was always very much in awe and looked up to my older sisters, so it may come from that. My drag persona is very much based around women who made me feel empowered growing up, whether it’d be through people I have met or characters on TV, so although there is a factor of intimidation with my character, I hope through being kind and approachable I am able to empower other creatives.
What does confidence mean to you?
To me, self-confidence is when you stop caring what others think of you. Life is too short to spend looking for validation from strangers. Valuing your own self-worth is the key to confidence.
How can we get to be as bad ass as you?
I’ve always admired people who just go for it. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed so if you want to do something just do it. I’ve done some things I would have never dared to do a few years back but there comes a point where you realise nothing will change unless YOU change. I think that’s bad ass.
What does feminism mean to you?
No one should be limited to gender stereotypes.
Give us your top 3 favourite tracks at the moment
Clean Bandit – Symphony
Miley Cyrus – Malibu
Katy perry – Swish, swish
Give us your top 3 inspiration accounts to follow on Instagram
What has been your proudest career moment?
Being able to travel around the world with drag. Hosting parties in Paris and New York were highlights.
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who would it be?
I wouldn’t mind getting lost in Dita Von Tesse’s wardrobe
What do you love most about Missguided?
I just love how modern and chic Missguided is. You can look very expensive without spending a fortune.
What’s on your agenda for the rest of the summer
Sitting by the pool with a cocktail judging everyone that walks past.
