#MISSGUIDEDDISCOVERED: ANABEL ENGLUND| December 15, 2016
For serious party vibes you’re gonna wanna listen to Anabel Englund’s track. She’s the LA-based singer-songwriter who we’re currently obsessing over and we reckon you will be too. We caught up with her to chat musical inspo, dream collabs and celeb style steals…
Tell us about yourself…
Hi my name is Anabel Englund, I am a virgo baby. I’m obsessed with fresh air and I don’t know what I would do without my voice.
How did you get into songwriting?
Writing is something I’ve always done since I can remember. I’ve been documenting my life since I was very little so songwriting is basically like a condensed version of my journaling. I also grew up with my dad & his songwriting so it just became second nature to me.
Which songwriters have inspired you the most?
One of them is Madonna, all of her albums and all of her songs I’ve identified with in one way or another. I know she collabs to create her music but I think that’s how the best music’s made. I also really love Stevie Knicks’ songwriting. Her dreamy melodies have saved my life. I remember being a little girl sitting in the back seat of my mom’s car driving through Laurel Canyon being swayed by her voice & so influenced.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met so far?
There’s a gagillion but I met Daddy Warbucks (Victor Garber) one time at a movie premiere. It was fun taking pictures on my disposable camera with him.
Who would you like to collaborate with and why?
I want to collaborate with more badass women. I’ve never been in a songwriting session with all women. It’s either one other woman or I’m the only one. I don’t think we get enough credit.
You must travel a lot. Which travel essentials can’t you live without?
I can’t live without my journal while travelling. I have so many thoughts flying around my head it helps me see what’s in there and see what’s important.
What has been your favourite place you’ve travelled to?
One of my favourite places I’ve travelled to is Sorrento in the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Sooo beautiful and the food was so fresh and amazing.
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2016?
Well 2016 is almost over, but I’m touring with the party I’ve been throwing, ‘GARI SAFARI’ some more which is super fun because I get to travel and play music with all of my besties.
Why do you think the relationship between fashion and music is so strong?
I think both fashion and music are ways of expressing yourself so naturally they go hand in hand. I mean fashion doesn’t even need to be whats ‘in’ necessarily but doing what no one else is doing & sticking to what feels right for you.
What’s your favourite music video?
What’s your spirit animal?
Madam Mim from ‘Sword In The Stone’
Who are you currently stalking on Instagram?
Rihanna, I fucking love her
What makes you laugh?
Dogs, they’re so much fun to watch & each one has their own personality. They make me laugh by just being them
What’s your secret addiction?
What would your superhero power be?
Being a chameleon
What was the first thing you did this morning?
Woke up, thought about making tea for probably fifteen minutes then went & made some tea.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
What’s your song to get you ready for a party?
If you were a Spice Girl which one would you be?
Baby Spice – Obvz
What do you love about Missguided?
I love the sass. I love how it’s women empowerment. To me its about embracing your sexy, flirty, self. It’s all about looking good and feeling good and I love that.
What item of clothing can’t you live without?
Sheer comfy fitting tank top
Who is your style icon and why?
Madonna. I just love the way she has constantly and effortlessly re-invented herself time and time again really fulfilling her vision and expressing herself. The best thing about her is she owns who she is and doesn’t apologise for it.
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
Travelling gives me fashion inspiration. Really soaking in the different cultures and looks, whether it’s boots, or coats, beanies, make up, no make-up. Taking it in and making it my own is what inspires me.
What best describes your style?
I like to be comfortable & mis-match. Sometimes I like to dress super girly, sometimes I like to dress like a boy. Every outfit is like a new person I get to be.
What’s your favourite trend this season and why?
I like thigh high boots. They’re sexy.
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?
Rihanna- Ughhh so good.
You can only wear one outfit for the rest of the year, what is it?
If I could only pick one outfit, then I’d have to pick one place because it needs to be the right temperature right? So I’m gonna put myself on some secluded beautiful beach somewhere with little high waisted shorts, a little silky tank top with a small necklace. When I decide to go in the ocean I can just take it all of.
Which city has the best fashion?
I love the style in New York. It’s always a pleasure for me when I first get into the taxi from the airport to my hotel and get to see all the beautiful people walking up & down the streets. That first ride is always my favourite. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
Finally, any tips for anyone trying to get into the industry?
I would just say to be yourself. No one ever truly got to a satisfying place by being someone else and if they say they did then they’re lying. Be yourself, always do your very best, keep your word and keep trying, trying, trying. You will get to where you are meant to be <3
