#MISSGUIDEDDISCOVERED: KEV| February 28, 2017
Forget recycled Scandi-pop, KEV is the fresh faced four piece from Sweden who we’ve been obsessing over lately. We caught up with band member Kevin to chat fave gigs, musical inspo and secret addictions…
Tell us about yourself…
My name is Kevin, and I’m 23 y/o. I’m based in Halmstad, on the westcoast in Sweden. I’m an actor and singer, working with a lot of different projects, all the time. I have three siblings, two brothers and one sister.
How would you describe your aesthetic and how does it inspire your music?
I’m a guy who is very spontaneous when it comes to the creative process, and very strict when it comes to the performance. I want to have a free process where we can have fun and play around with ideas and improvise, but at the same time I want it to be 100 procent when we’re done with a track or having a show. I think I might have some control issues, but I like to have knowledge about what’s going on, and I see that as a good thing, to be involved in every step.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met so far?
That’s a funny question, I’d say my little sister. She is a person that really goes her own way, she doesn’t care about what other people think and she started with this at a really young age. Hopefully she’ll keep that spirit all her life.
What’s the best gig you have ever played?
Our first gig we had with KEV were in Halmstad, our hometown, and we didn’t have any expectations, but it came a lot of people and they we’re very happy and dedicated to our music, so it felt really fun!
Who would you like to collaborate with and why?
There are many. I’d say M83, Justin Bieber, Bon Iver, The weeknd, Daft punk… The list goes on, but everyone that makes something unique and are confident in what they are doing, can help you with your music.
Why do you think the relationship between fashion and music is so strong?
It goes hand in hand, today I think that your clothes and style makes the same impressions as your music. You can almost see what type of music an artists does, just by looking at his clothes. For me it’s about identity, I show who I am with my clothes, and what mood I’m in. And that’s very effective on stage too, and today you don’t just listen with your ears, you’re looking at the bigger picture with how the artists look, and music videos and of course the shows. So fashion is a big part because it’s necessary, in my opinion.
What’s your favourite music video?
The Weeknd – False alarm. Really cool video, almost like a short movie. I like when the music video isn’t just about the music, but also has a story.
Who did you listen to growing up?
It’s funny, because while growing up i listended a lot to The mamas and the Papas, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and The beach boys. It’s not the type of music I make today.
Who’s your biggest musical inspiration?
It changes and varies from day to day, but right now I really like M83 and Bon iver’s latest. Also Snakehips, The weeknd and Robyn are a good inspiration!
What’s your guilty pleasure, most played track?
I love Justin Bieber. I love his new album and have been listening to him since “Baby”. But he was more of a guilty pleasure back in the days, now he feels more accepted, which is cool!
Last album you listened to all the way through?
It has to be The weeknd – Star boy or Bon Iver – 22, A million.
What track gives you goosebumps?
M83 – Midnight city. I love that track and I always imagine that I’m in some sort of movie, looking out from my car window. It’s a classic.
What item of clothing can’t you live without?
A great pair of sneakers. Without nice shoes your outfit is destroyed haha.
What items do you make sure you pack on your travels?
My mic, my computer, wallet, passport and a cool outfit. That’s all you need, right?
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
I’m searching on different blogs, but also in bigger fashion magazines. I like the feeling of a physical magazine in my hands.
What best describes your style?
Flexible streetstyle. Actually it’s hard to put a name on it, because one day I have ripped jeans and a long t-shirt and the following day I wear a suit. I like to have different styles depending on what mood I’m in.
What’s your favourite fashion trend this season and why?
I like the pink shades for boys, I think it’s really cool to combine a pink t-shirt with a pair of black suit pants and cool sneakers. The 90’s vibe that is happening is also cool!
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?
I think Asap Rocky’s. I like his style, and it seems that he also likes to change style every day, just like me.
You can only wear one outfit for the rest of the year, what is it?
Skinny black suit pants, a cool white t-shirt, fresh sneakers and a really cool bomber jacket. It’s simple and in a way classic and you can have it on a party and on chill nights.
What’s your spirit animal?
Never thought about that. Maybe the cheetah? Because I like to have a high tempo.
What emoji best describes you?
The smiley who smiles and has a hat on – it seems nice!
Who are you currently stalking on Instagram?
I think I’m stalking Zara Larsson a bit right now, it’s great to see that her talent is getting what it deserves on a bigger scale. She’s amazing! She is also Swedish…
What makes you laugh?
Great movies and stupid things. And I laugh the most when I’m not supposed to…. Its terrible and great at the same time!
What’s your secret addiction?
Candy, but I’m working on it, it’s not that great for your health haha!
What was the first thing you did this morning?
I answered some emails while trying to make myself understand that it was morning. Then I drank a lot of coffee.
Tell us something weird about yourself…
I often talk to myself when I’m alone. Making things up and imagine that I’m talking with people. That’s pretty weird…
Who are you listening to at the moment?
At this very moment I listen to Flume – never be like you.
What’s your song to get you ready for a party?
Justin bieber – Children. Good energy.
What has been your favourite place you’ve travelled to?
I would say Los Angeles. It has a cool vibe and it wsa the first big trip I made. We did a lot of fun stuff and I really liked it.
What do you love about Missguided?
I like that it’s an independent fashion brand with a unique style and a confidence that is important in today’s society.
Where can we see you perform next?
When I know I promise to tell you. We have some plans, but not any dates at this point.
What’s on the agenda for 2017?
We’re going to make music, release music and hopefully also play a lot of shows. We really want to go out and play for people and show our music, and our vision.
