Tell us about yourself…

I’ve been making music with Fin in RIVRS for three years. I love drawing, tattoos, 80s films, horror films, sci-fi and specifically any film with Winona Ryder. I’ve just moved back to London from living in Berlin but i want to move back out there again later this year.

When do you realise you wanted to make music?

It’s funny cause there was definitely a specific moment for me. I was watching Jools Holland back in 2012 and Grimes came on, I’d never heard of her before but she came out like this ethereal creature with an eye drawn on the middle of her forehead and started looping sounds on her keyboard and I thought Oh My God, suddenly making music feels more accessible for me.

What does a day in the life of you look like?

I’m not an early riser and I’m most energetic at night. So i wake up, i like to draw, i like looking through art books and old magazines from the 80s for inspiration. I’m currently learning how to tattoo as well. Fin will come round to mine and we’ll start working on music, maybe we’ll have a friend over to write with. We’ll go meet friends, Dollar Baby is a great night I went to recently in East London.

You’ve just released your new track Man Of My Dreams, what can we expect?

We came up with Man of My Dreams in Berlin. We were renting a flat we found on Facebook from this woman who was an opera singer. We wrote it on her keyboard. It’s kind of about that feeling of being so in love with a person, but you feel like you’re almost not good enough for them.

How does it compare to Bad Karma?

I think Man of My Dreams is a more downtempo romantic track. Bad Karma is a different kind of energy, it’s a very angry song, just spilling those feelings into the track, the beat is kind of more sultry as well.

This is the first track taken from your new mixtape, The Berlin Mixtape. How did writing in Berlin influence your sound?

It definitely influenced the sound on the mixtape a lot. Everything we do is an experiment and moving to Berlin definitely opened up a lot more doors for us. We wanted to get this across in the lyrics and musicality and really try to represent our time there, the people we were meeting, the history of the place, and the club culture there. We were listening to a lot of Kraftwerk and Nine Inch Nails and techno music as well.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?

Definitely our recent support set for Charli XCX at the Jazz Cafe. A lot of people there knew us because Charli XCX released our first track ‘Friend Lover’ on her label Vroom Vroom Recordings so the energy was great.

If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?

I think I’d love to either collaborate with a band we really admire like The Cure, Depeche Mode, or Nine Inch Nails or newer artists like Charli XCX or Phantogram.

Who did you listen to growing up?

My first CD was The Offspring, and I stole my dad’s Nirvana CD, but i was also a sucker for Britney Spears.

What’s your guilty pleasure track?

Hit Me Baby One More Time… – Britney Spears, but I’m not guilty.

What’s the last album you listened to all the way through?

Haha! Actually the other day it was ‘Blackout’ by Britney Spears. But before that it was Nine Inch Nails ‘The Downward Spiral’

What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?

I think creating The Berlin Mixtape, feeling confident enough to experiment with sounds and touring with Honne. Also seeing a dance choreographer teaching a class using our track ‘Bad Karma’ was pretty cool.

Who’s the coolest person you’ve worked with so far?

Once we got to write with Biff, who wrote a lot of the tracks with the Spice Girls. I saw the keyboard that Wannabe was written on which was great, really a childhood dream. I wrote a song with him called ‘Sad Girl’.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Banks, Abra, Phantogram, Tommy Genesis, Kendrick Lamar and Paramore.

What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?

Figure out exactly the music you love, who you admire and why. Make an instagram with your favourite album covers, pictures of your heroes, your favourite fashion designers, your favourite music, your favourite art. Sometimes it’s easy to listen to outside influences telling you who they think who should be, when that should come from within yourself. Then just get out there, upload songs online and play gigs.

You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what is it?

In Rainbows by Radiohead.

Where can we see you perform next?

Kelvedon Bash –  July 1

What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017?

Writing, writing, writing.
