15-yo Sody (Yes, just fifteen years old) is a name you might wanna remember ’cause this girl is going places. She might still be in school, but the buzz around her is big and once you hear her songs, they’ll be stuck in your head for days.
We caught up with her to chat music videos, future collaborations and celebrity wannabe wives…
Tell us about yourself…
Hey, I’m Sody. I’m a singer-songwriter from London and I’ve literally sung my whole life! My sound is a pop hybrid of electronic and live instruments with raspy vocals. I love candlelit studio sessions to get in the zone and I only write my songs in ONE notebook (all about the vibes).
Your videos are amazing, which has been your favourite to create so far?
Thank you! Probably ‘Sorry’ because I got to hang out with a fit model which made my friends super jealous!
How would you describe your aesthetic and how does it inspire your music?
Long blonde hair, blue eyes and a BIG smile – I’m super girly but when it comes to writing I actually have a natural pull towards darker feels and lyrics – so I think my music challenges my aesthetic.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve met so far?
Jack Garratt as he’s such a genuine, humble and chilled guy.
Where can we see you perform next?
Glass Butter beach Festival 19th August in Wales – lots of sun surf and sounds!
What’s the best gig you have ever played?
My EP Launch! Having a room full of all the people I adore plus lots of new faces was incredible. It feels good to finally have my EP out there!
What’s on the agenda for 2016?
I break up for summer in July so I’m excited about festivals with friends plus gigs of my own. I’m playing a festival called Glass Butter Beach in August and one of my all-time favourite bands Kodaline are playing too! Also lots of writing sessions in London and potentially another trip to the US! So yeah, it’s a busy one!
Who would you like to collaborate with and why?
There are so many but the ultimate one would be Ed Sheeran. He has been a huge inspiration of mine for many years. His lyrics can be pretty blunt or super meaningful and I feel like you can spot an ‘Ed Sheeran’ song even when it’s written with another artist, like the Bieber track. Having an instantly recognisable sound is what every artist hopes for I think.
Why do you think the relationship between fashion and music is so strong?
They go hand in hand as fashion is a great way to express yourself, just like music. For many musicians, fashion is a huge part of their brand too. It’s always interesting to see the red carpet events followed by a ‘who wore what’ write up!
What’s your favourite music video?
At the moment, Pillow Talk – Zayn.
What’s your spirit animal?
Who are you currently stalking on Instagram?
What makes you laugh?
My brothers and pugs.
What’s your secret addiction?
Popcorn.. lots and lots of popcorn.
Who’s your celebrity wannabe wife?
What would be your superhero power?
What was the first thing you did this morning?
Scream at my alarm for waking me up.
Tell us something weird about yourself…
I have two toes the same size.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Oh Wonder, Jack Garratt, Amber Run, Aurora.
What’s your song to get you ready for a party?
What has been your favourite place you’ve travelled to?
If you were a Spice Girl which one would you be?
Hmm, Baby or Sporty Spice
What do you love about Missguided?
I love how easy it is to go from girl next door to preppy or fierce. So many choices!
What item of clothing can’t you live without?
Rings rings rings
What items do you make sure you pack on your travels?
Headphones, chargers and gum
Who is your style icon and why?
I wouldn’t say I have an icon yet but I think Zendaya has been super playful with her style over the last year which is cool. I love to watch someone change their style from event to event in such a bold way.
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
Instagram is the best place to get fresh inspiration. It’s just like a big jumble sale. If you have the time to search it’s a great way to keep up with the trends around the world.
What best describes your style?
Day to day I live in jeans and love a simple white shirt. When it comes to the stage, I get so excited to experiment as it’s a place to allow your personality to shine through. So, pieces with detail catch my eye. My style is boho beach with flecks of tomboy attitude. P.s I kinda have a boot obsession.
What’s your favourite fashion trend this season and why?
I love festival fashion and how every year something new leads the way.
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?
Probably Gigi, again. Her boot collection would be next level!
You can only wear one outfit for the rest of the year, what is it?
Jeans, cropped tee and white kicks.
