#MISSGUIDEDDISCOVERED: ELDERBROOK| May 24, 2017
Tell us about yourself…
My name’s Alex and I’m a 23 year old man. I’ve also been Elderbrook for about 3 years. I’m a producer and vocalist most of the time but I also play guitars and pianos. I live in London and make music from there
What does a day in the life of Elderbrook look like?
Well today I’ve been rehearsing for Jonas Blue’s tour, which I’ll be joining him on as of tomorrow. My days mainly consist of writing songs and having breakfast though.
When did you first realise you wanted to make music?
I always have in one way or another. The first time I started writing properly, though, was when I was about 15 or 16 – I played in a band with some friends.
How would you describe your sound?
A bit electronic and a bit live, Bouncy; sometimes fast bouncy and sometimes slow bouncy. They’re is always a bounce somewhere though.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
It was amazing playing at Brixton Academy in London a few months ago with Gorgon City. It was, by far, the largest crowd I have performed to and that feeling was incredible.
Who did you listen to growing up?
All kinds of things, I went through a lot of phases of music. Something that’s always stuck with me from the very beginning is blues music and gospel in most of its forms. That, along with Kings of Leon; I have always been a big fan.
What’s your guilty pleasure track?
I really really really like The Piña Colada Song. A lot.
What’s the last album you listened to all the way through?
The latest Gorillaz album, Humanz.
What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?
My proudest moment would probably be when I realised I could leave university to pursue my career in music. There have been ups and downs since then but I was pretty proud at that moment.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Literally right now this second – White Stripes.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?
Don’t try and sound like anyone else, love your own sound.
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what is it?
Bob Marley – Exodus
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017?
I’m working on a collection of seven tracks I’m very excited to share with you. That will be out at the end of the year and I’m gonna be playing a lot of live shows while finishing that off 🙂
