q&a with loop| March 26, 2018
We caught up with MEGA babe, singer and all round 90’s baby, Loop at LFW, to talk all things music, fashion, beauty and all round life inspiration.
Hey Loop, how are you?
I’m great thank you! Had an amazing start to the year and just super excited for what the rest of 2018 is gonna hold.
For anyone who doesn’t know you already, tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m a pop singer songwriter and a real 90s baby – I’m influenced by all sorts of music but have a real soft spot for Christina Aguilera, Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child etc! I’ve been writing songs and performing since I was about 5 years old. I’m obsessed with pizza, popcorn, pandas and puppies. And my latest single Give n Take is out now so go check it out!
How would you describe your sound?
I’d call it sassy emotive pop. My songs are always very personal to me and whatever’s going on in my life at the time – the majority of them are about boys; exes/flings/new guys, and the lyrics are always extreeemely specific lol. I’d also say it’s quite a British sound – I write quite rhythmic verses with lots of conversational lyrics so my accent comes through when I sing.
Your new track ‘Give n Take’ is out now, what’s the inspo behind it…
I wrote it towards the end of my most recent (4 year long) relationship. It’s about getting to the point where there’s just no real spontaneity or romance left – something I know loads of people can relate to – and you’re imploring your partner to just give a little more thought and effort, in return for more of what they like… it’s a little tongue in cheek. The verses are very specific to me and my ex though!
Who inspires you musically?
Whoever I’m listening to at the time of writing I think, which could be anyone from Tove Lo or Halsey to Col3trane or Alt J. But then my roots are 100% in 90s pop, so those influences and styles are always gonna come through to some extent.
What was the last album you listened to all the way through?
Col3trane – Tsarina. I’m obsessed. Have listened to it on repeat for weeks. And also Camila Cabello’s new album. I love ‘She Loves Control’.
If you could collab with anyone who would it be?
Oooof there are so many people I’d love to collab with. Charli xcx is high on my list cos she’s just such a pop writing powerhouse. Rihanna, obviously. Drake. Kanye. Banks. Halsey. My list is loooong. But if only one, probably Riri.
What’s currently on your going out playlist?
I mean it depends what mood I’m in – I’ll usually just put some sort of urban throwback playlist on with songs like
American Boy – Estelle & Kanye
Say My Name – Destiny’s Child
Me & U – Cassie
One, Two Step – Missy Elliott & Ciara
but these songs are some of my favs at the mo to get me in the going out mood too:
Lemon by N.E.R.D and Rihanna
Fake ID by Riton and Kah-Lo
Friends by Marshmello and Anne-Marie
Me Gusta by Lao Ra and Afro B
Yeah Right by Vince Staples
Disco Tits by Tove Lo.
What are your 3 style must-haves?
Chunky black boots
High waisted print/pattern trousers/trackies
What beauty products are your tour essentials?
Olaplex hair treatment for my bleached hair! Garnier Micellar water makeup remover. Kiehl’s crème de corps – I moisturise after every shower cos I’m obsessed with having soft skin. Revitalash to keep my eyelashes from all falling out lol. Cetaphil face moisturiser.
Where can we next see you play?
I’ve got a couple of festivals lined up so far but can’t say which they are yet so you’ll just have to keep an eye on my socials! I’m playing the new Soho House in April too which will be good fun. And a couple of sick support slots later on this year, but again can’t say those yet, sorry! So mysterious hey. The minute gigs are announced I’ll be spamming them all over my Insta/FB/Twitter!
What’s on the agenda for 2018/any exciting projects you can tell us about?
A lot of writing – here and abroad, which I can’t wait for. My next single release in just over a month! Another headline show before summer and the festival season! Oh, and a cool collab 😉 It’s gonna be a good’un.
