#MISSGUIDEDDISCOVERED: CARISSA FROM US THE DUO| December 15, 2015
Folk-pop group Us the Duo met in 2011 on set of a music video, married in 2012 and have been making music ever since. We caught up with Carissa to find out what it’s like working with her husband, what’s inspired their latest tune and what they’ve got planned for 2016…
What’s it like working as a duo?
Working as a duo is pretty awesome. Two heads truly are better than one! We challenge each other a lot which helps us grow to be the best we can be. The fact that we are married to one another also makes it easier to be real with each other.
Do you ever have creative differences?
Oh, we definitely have creative differences. I mean…we’re a couple, so that alone causes us to butt heads every so often. I like it though because it causes us to both get even more creative and come up with something we can both love and agree on.
What inspired the writing behind your latest single Slow down Time?
-The inspiration behind our new song “Slow Down Time” came from a very real and personal place. A couple of years ago, our lives were much more simple and normal. Ever since things started to pick up with our career, it’s been such a whirlwind! Now we are usually on an airplane or traveling on the road and touring. We wrote this song as a reminder of how important it is to slow down time and never lose sight of what makes up happy: spending time with each other, family, and friends. We all need that reminder when life gets crazy. Sometimes we just need to slow down and enjoy the moment.
How did you guys first meet?
-Michael and I first met one random night in LA. He was visiting from North Carolina to help move his college roommate to the land of dreams to pursue his career in acting. We both had a mutual friend who was having a music video shoot. Both Michael and I were invited to this shoot to be extras. I knew most of the people there, so once I saw Michael and his friend walk in, I introduced myself to them and went ahead and introduced them to everybody else so they would feel more comfortable. Michael and I ended up talking and joking with each other the whole three hours of the shoot. And the rest was history! The singing came after we got together. 🙂
What’s the best gig you have played?
The best gig that we’ve ever played would have to be when Oprah herself invited us to join her on her “The Life You Want” tour. She is such an inspirational woman, so it was an honor to be a part of such a memorable experience. And she gives the greatest hugs! (Still fan-girling to this day!)
