We caught up with DJ, dancer, model and all round mega babe DJ Dee Dee to talk a day in the life, favourite albums and what she’s listening to RN…
Tell us about yourself…
I am a professional dj, dancer, model and actress from Mexico City.
Music and dance is my passion. I would like to say it is here where I am most comfortable, but it’s not true. It is where I push myself the hardest. It my first love… with sleeping and drinking coffee.
What does a day in the life of you look like?
Everyday is different, but there’s always music and dance. I have to dance. There’s usually a bit of coffee and laptop in there somewhere. And I like to take my time over breakfast. It’s my none negotiable.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever played?
With out a doubt, my first. I dressed up in a frog onesie to play in a gay club in mexico. I was so nervous about my set, but the crowd went crazy. I’ll never forget it.
Who did you listen to growing up?
Disney. I knew every word to every song.
What’s your guilty pleasure track?
Anything reggaeton. But it’s not my fault.
What’s the last album you listened to all the way through?
Being Beyonce’s biggest fan means listening to her all her albums on loop.
What’s been your career highlight/proudest moment?
Receiving a scholarship to go to LA to dance with Beyonce’s choreographer Dana Foglia. Or every time I successfully follow google maps to get myself to a casting on time.
Who’s the coolest person you’ve worked with so far?
My boyfriend is a director and this year we’ve been collaborating on short films. It’s amazing to be able to work with someone you are so close with. They see your vision.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Mostly my WhatsApp audios. My friends like to chat haha.
There was a week or two where I had Kyla La Grange’s Cannibals on repeat. It inspires me so much. I want to write a choreography for it.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists trying to break into the industry?
When you do it, can you tell me how? Haha.
Nothing that hasn’t been said before. But it’s true none the less, listen to your heart, and follow your passion.
You can only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what is it?
Can it be a mix tape of my favourite tracks? There’s a few different songs I’ll always need with me.
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2017?
Take over London! It’s been a huge transition moving here, but little by little…
