Tell us about yourself…
We are Marta and Erika and together we’re I Am Karate!
Describe your sound in five words…
Dreams, heart, beats, dance, everything.
What was your big break into the industry?
It was when we released our song Bitter last winter. It quickly spread all over the world via SoundCloud, Spotify and Twitter.
When and how did you discover your passion and skills in music?
We’ve been singing and playing music since we were kids. When we were young teenagers we discovered songwriting and our passion for that.
What are you working on at the moment?
Right now we’re in the studio working on new music and our next release.
What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2016?
Work, work, work! We’re continuing writing new music.
What’s been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Getting a record deal with Universal was a real dream come true to say the least!
Best gig you have ever played?
When we played with Benny Andersson from ABBA at the Guggenheim museum in NYC, it was kind of surreal and so much fun!
If you could collab with anyone who would it be?
We would love to collab with the danish artist MØ.
What 3 tips would you give to emerging artists trying to break into the industry?
Give the songwriting a lot of time, find your voice and sound. Then just be fearless and release the music on for example Soundcloud and try to spread it as much as you can to different music blogs and such.
Who inspires you in the industry?
MØ, Years & Years, Susanne Sunfør and Sia.
Who is your guilty pleasure most played?
We don’t have any guilty pleasures cause we have such good music taste haha.

At the moment: Wolves by Kanye West
What’s the last thing you listened to?
Wolf with Skott.
What song do you want to be playing as you walk into the club?
Starboy with The Weeknd & Daft Punk.

Bootylicious – Destiny’s Child
What item of clothing can’t you live without?
Black tight jeans.
What items do you make sure you pack on tour?
The glossy pink karate team-jacket and matchy outfits.
Who is your style icon and why?
Rihanna! She will always surprise you with something you’ve never seen before!
Where do you look for fashion inspiration?
One example would be @watts.on on instagram, they’ve got some really inspiring stuff!
What best describes your style on stage?
Edgy dark pop.
What’s your favourite fashion trend this season and why?
The bomber jacket! Cool, comfy, confident!
If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?
Why do you think the relationship between music and fashion is so strong?
All art forms go together, we use fashion to enhance the experience of the music and vice versa.
