Tell us about yourself…

I am a human and I like to make art. I can’t be asked to stick to one format, I want to create limitlessly.

Describe your sound in five words…

Raw, eclectic, intentional, emotional, loud

What was your big break into the industry?

I was a local DJ in Phoenix, AZ who was randomly invited to play on an art car at Bonnaroo 2014. Skrillex showed up to my set at 6am and wanted to play b2b. People caught notice of our set and we made waves.

When and how did you discover your passion and skills in music?

Music is in my blood. Most of my family members are involved or have a long term relationship with music. For me, it started when I was 7 years old singing in a classical choir. I did that for almost ten years before I was introduced to electronic music and fell in love with this world.

What are you working on at the moment?

Currently I am working on a few singles/remixes, as well as my debut EP.

What’s on the agenda for the rest of 2016?

I am in the middle of my world tour/FK A GENRE tour, which will run until the end of 2016.

What’s been the proudest moment of your career so far?

My proudest moment has been creating the FK A GENRE tour. It was such a huge effort made by myself and my team to curate the dopest/most eclectic lineups in each city. We just started the tour, but already it’s been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my music career.

Best gig you have ever played?

Last weekend at Webster Hall we had a FK A GENRE party which included artists Boogie, Nina Las Vegas, Justin Martin, and myself. What So Not even came through as a surprise guest! I can’t even express how beautiful the vibe was and how much it meant to all of the artists playing. It’s been two days since the show and I’m still high off of the energy.

If you could collab with anyone who would it be?

Nicolas Jaar would be a dream.

What 3 tips would you give to emerging artists trying to break into the industry?

Be real. Be genuine. It doesn’t matter how talented you are—if you aren’t a kind human, no one will want to work with you.

Work harder than everyone else. It pays off, I promise.

Surround yourself with people that are better than you. This will make you uncomfortable, but being in that position will force you learn more and become better than you ever thought was possible.

Who inspires you in the industry?

OWSLA has been a big inspiration to me since day 1. Watching them start as a record label and grow into so many different creative outlets (fashion, videos, nest HQ) is very humbling.

Who is your guilty pleasure most played?

Never guilty, but I love listening back on old happy hardcore records. They are so cheesy and ridiculous at times, but it brings me back to a different time and place in my life and i’m a sucker for nostalgia.

Favourite music video?

I’m gonna be that guy, and say my favorite music video is Mija & Vindata – “Better” directed and edited by Ryan Farber. Obviously I have a special connection to the music and content… but it’s real. All the moments captured in the video are real and I can’t help but carry a huge grin every time I watch it.

What’s the last thing you listened to?

Everything But The Girl – Missing (Todd Terry Club Mix)

What song do you want to be playing as you walk into the club?

Boogie – Oh My

Best song to get ready to?

Uffie Ft. Pharrell Williams – Add SUV (Armand Van Helden Remix)

What item of clothing can’t you live without?

My Slayer tour t-shirt from 2004. My mom gave it to me :’)

What items do you make sure you pack on tour?

Platform shoes because I’m really short and can’t always reach the DJ booth.

Who is your style icon and why?

Rick Owens is my favorite style icon/fashion designer. I’m in love with the high-end goth vibe he’s established and he’s one of my biggest influences when designing my own pieces.

Where do you look for fashion inspiration?

Most often, I find my fashion inspiration just by traveling around the world. My favorite place to look for inspiration is Tokyo and London. Those cities are really killing the game.

What best describes your style on stage?

On stage, I like to be comfortable and tall. So most often you will find me wearing baggy t-shirts, and platform shoes. I also like tall socks because it hides the bruises on my shins from jumping on the table/crowd surfing.

What’s your favourite fashion trend this season and why?

I’m really digging all the bootleg metal tees this season. I’ve been wearing them my whole life, so seeing designers like Vetements take the metal aesthetic and turn it into bizarre new pieces has been a big eye-opener for me.

If you could steal anyone’s wardrobe who’s would it be?

Rick Owens or Virgil Abloh. Clearly I’m really into men’s fashion..

Why do you think the relationship between music and fashion is so strong?

The relationship between music and fashion is strong because they are both creative outlets of expression that cohesively represent a particular lifestyle/aesthetic. It’s really fun for artists to bounce back and forth between these two worlds and create something bigger than themselves.
