MEET SITA ABELLAN| November 19, 2015
She was cast as Rihanna’s badass sidekick in the #BBHMM video and is now amassing her own cult following with over 143k followers on Instagram. Meet Sita Abellan, the pastel-haired cool chick DJ from Milan.
We’ve gotta ask, what was it like to work with Rihanna?
It was a really good experience. I really enjoyed working with her and the team and it’s something I would love to repeat. Being involved in a big production and then seeing the results afterwards is a really unique experience.
What was Riri like to work with?
Rihanna is a sweetheart. It was a pleasure to work with her and her team. The video was directed by her and her MEGAFORCE team, and the fact she was involved in the direction of it made me think that she’s such a badass.
Did it open doors for you?
Honestly it opened so many doors for me. I’m really happy with the great work we did in that video.
How did you feel when you were first contacted to feature alongside Rihanna in the video?
I got really excited and I couldn’t believe she had found me on the Internet.
You get to DJ at some of the coolest fashion parties; which has been the craziest yet?
I have fantastic memories of every fashion party I’ve played at but it’s the Jeremy Scott The People Designers movie premier party during NYFW in September 2015 that was my favourite and craziest fun so far.
You like to mix music and fashion, why is this important for you?
I love fashion and I love music. It’s not that I mix them purposely; it’s just that my careers as a model and DJ complement and complete each other.
Your hair is so rad, how do you keep the colour up?
I dye my hair almost every 3 weeks and I do a moisturizing treatment once a month.
What’s the best DJ gig you’ve ever played?
I don’t think I have a best one exactly. Sincerely I enjoy every DJ set I do and I put all my dedication into it. It’s such a good feeling when you express yourself through being able to play music and people get that feeling from you.
How did you first get into being a DJ?
I’ve always loved music, ever since I was a kid as it runs in the family. My mum loves to listen super loud to music at home. I started Djing as a hobby in my hometown with friends in some small clubs. Then it became something I took more seriously and I travel just to play! I’m really happy doing what I really love.
Who’s your fave DJ?
At the moment it’s Xhin. The dark atmosphere that his music creates is just amazing and I love it.
Describe your sound in 5 words…
Dark dark dark dark techno
What are you working on at the mo?
I’m focusing on my modeling career and DJ sets around the world.
What’s on the agenda for 2016?
I’m planning on producing my own tracks and start working on my dream job as a Creative Director.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Skittles! I can eat a huge bag alone in one afternoon.
If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?
There are so many DJs I’d love to collaborate with like Ben Klockk, Nina Kraviz, The Hacker, Marcel Dettman, Xhin or the Martinex Brothers. They’re all different but their way of making music is amazing.
What’s your spirit animal?
Cats I guess…I love the way they are. They’re independent animals that love people around them.
What makes you laugh?
I make myself laugh so much.
If you could have a superhero power, what would it be?
Changing the minds of bad people so they would stop doing bad stuff to the world and we could all live in peace, and war wouldn’t exist.
Tell us something weird about yourself…
I’m a little cranky when cleaning.
What piece of clothing could you not live without?
My precious shoes.
Who’s your style icon?
I love Marilyn Manson, he’s a big icon for me as he inspires me, not just with his amazing style, but also his music and videos.
Where do you look for fashion inspo?
Everything around me and everyday life inspires me.
How would you describe your own style?
I pick up ideas from different trends so it’s a bit difficult to describe my style. It’s something very personal because it always depends on how I feel.
