If it was up to us, you’d have a 2-day working week. Surely it should be illegal to make us sit in an office when there’s so much else we could be doing? Unfortunately, most of us need a job to pay the bills (and you know, online shopping). So, drag yourself away from your netflix binge and show your office who’s the ultimate girl-boss by updating your workwear style. Here’s our guide on what to wear to work:
Picture the scene: It’s 7.30am, and after pressing the snooze button a few too many times you now have 20 minutes to catch your train (AND pick up a skinny latte on your way, ‘mare). You need an outfit that takes two minutes to throw together but gives you major style points. Step up, monochrome. Black and white always look seriously smart so you can afford to mix and match with some more casual pieces for the office – think a black blazer and trousers with a slogan tee. Paired with heels this look slays, but for casual Fridays (and your commute) team with white trainers. Who needs bright colours when all eyes will be on you anyway?
SS18 showed us that checks are no longer just for geography teachers, and it looks we’ll be crushing on this pattern well into the transitional season. The easiest way to wear this trend is to team checked trousers with boots and a plain tee. Or throw on a long checked coat over absolutely anything to pull together any outfit, instantly smarten it up, and keep yourself warm all in one. Bonus. Or, if you heart this pattern like we do, go head to toe in a suit, and crush it like the boss babe you are. Co-ords are an instant way to earn major fashion points. #checkyouout
We had a summer of blue skies, but now reality is hitting again and the rain has reappeared. Prepare yourself for British winter by stocking up on some key knitwear pieces. We all know that office aircon is NOTORIOUS for being freezing AF, and nobody wants a nip on before a big meeting, so a cosy jumper is a perfect addition to your workwear. Style yours with cigarette trousers for a laidback style, or wear with a midi skirt for a blogger-approved fashion approach to work outfits. Oversized is in this season, so the bigger the better with your jumpers – Plus they’ll keep you super cosy.
The ultimate statement, stripes are EVERYWHERE this year. There is really no wrong way to wear this classic style. Wear one standout piece, like a bright striped dress. Or a striped shirt, with a plain leather skirt for an easy nod to this trend. Another way to earn your stripes (and give yourself legs for days) is to wear a side-striped pair of wide leg tracksuit bottoms or a jumpsuit. Who wouldn’t want to wear sportswear to work? Or show your wild side and go for a total stripe-out, in head to toe stripes for ultimate DGAF vibes.
You might think denim is the ultimate no-no for work, but if you’re lucky enough to have a more laidback workplace (or even just dress down Fridays… Wooh!) then you can definitely rep your favourite denim in the workplace. Steer clear of ripped styles, you’re just asking for the “did you buy those jeans like that?” comments from Margaret in finance. But, go for smart, structured styles, and team with a graphic tee. Finish the look off with a blazer, cause a blazer makes anything smart, right?
