Tell us about yourself… I have been working as a model agent and scout at Select Model management for 13 years after studying Fashion at university. I started as a runner/ Junior at Select and worked my way up and over the years working across all the boards, finally settling on to the new faces which I absolutely love. I find it so exciting discovering and starting new models and seeing them progress in to successful international models.

Tell us a bit about the growth of Select…

Select Women’s was started back in 1979 by 2 sisters Chrissie and Clare Castagnetti. It started very small and over the years grew to be one of the most successful UK agencies and have international recognition for starting off and looking after some of the biggest supermodels to date.

What would you consider some of your biggest successes?

Select Started the careers and worked with many great models over the years, such as Stella Tennant, Agynes Deyn, Sienna Miller, Helena Christenson, Gisele, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Amber Valetta, Lily Donaldson, Claudia Schiffer, Alessandra Ambrosio, Natasha Poly, Pixie Geldof and Irina Shayk to name a few!

Would you say the industry has changed since you started the agency?

What’s exciting about the fashion industry is that its constantly evolving and changing with the current time. It has been great to see in more recent years that clients are opening up of briefs using more diverse/ real looking models to represent their brands.

How and where do you scout for new girls?

We are constantly scouting, its just part of our job! We tend to scout weekends in the big cities, in the shopping centres across the UK. In the summer we go to festivals, concerts and fashion/ beauty events. We can be seen standing at entrances to venues or walking around the streets/ festivals wide eyed looking out for someone that stands out and has that special something.

Do you think we’re seeing a real change in the industry in terms of diversity?

Yes we have really noticed a demand for a variety of model’s and ethnicities in the casting process. We have also noticed it’s not all about a beautiful face, personality and being individual and an additional talent can really help make a model stand out.

What advice do you have for aspiring models?

Keep an eye on current fashion trends, flick through fashion magazines such as Vogue and practice the model poses. Be individual and don’t follow the crowd’s!
