Wanna know what it’s like to be a dresses buyer at Missguided? We sat down with Emma, our Senior Buyer to chat all about the role, as well as a few pointers on the upcoming trends for SS16.
Tell us a bit about your role…
I’m responsible for managing the buying team who buy into our evening dresses range, Peace + Love and collaborations or unique ranges.
What’s a typical day at Missguided like for you?
Busy! But I wouldn’t have it any other way. No two days are the same here, there are exciting and new things are happening all the time so I can’t say what’s typical as nothing is!
What’s your favourite thing about the job?
I love working with such amazing product. We love to be creative here, and we’re always trying to find the next best thing. The sky’s the limit so it’s great to be able to develop exciting and new dresses.
Where do you get your inspo?
I look a lot at celebrities and bloggers. I feel a lot of new trends are coming from street style too. The catwalks are also still really important to us but I like to keep an eye on what our customers really want to wear day to day, and who she looks to celeb-wise for her style inspo.
What’s been your fave dress collection to date?
We launched a collection of premium dresses last Christmas for party season which I loved working on. It was so much fun to create as we explored all sorts from Indian hand embellishment to premium bandage, which really hugs your curves. I also can’t wait to relaunch this range for SS16.
What’s coming up for dresses at Missguided?
As I say, I’m really excited to launch our new collection of premium occasion dresses! These really have the wow-factor at special events.
What are your dress trend predictions for SS16?
For SS16 I’m really feeling the safari trend – lots of wild prints and bold colours such as orange and yellow. I’m also loving the St Tropez look launching this summer, gold trims and lots of white and pops of aqua on mesh and lace.
If you could have any celeb wear one of your designs, who would it be?
Rihanna! For me she is the ultimate queen of cool and is constantly reinventing herself, making her style so exciting. I think she would look incredible in our new Peace + Love SS16 range.
How did you become a dresses buyer?
I’ve always loved retail and fashion but wasn’t the best at designing. I went to uni to study Fashion Buying as I felt this was more me. I could work with designers and trends and product as well as get involved with the planning of a range.
How would you describe your own personal style?
Forever changing. One day I’ll come into the office in a bodycon dress and heels, the next I’m wearing a camouflage tracksuit. I get bored so easily so love to switch thing sup and try out new looks.
