an interview with missguided affiliate assistant

This week we chat with Affiliate Marketing Assistant Lucy, who tells reveals how she bagged her role and tells us what it takes to work within the Marketing team at Missguided…

Hey Lucy, so can you tell us about your role as an Affiliate Marketing Assistant?

I currently manage the UK and French affiliate programs, planning and executing all promotional activity across the channel. I ensure affiliates are kept up to date on all things Missguided, whether it’s a new collection launch or the latest promotion, working with publishers to guarantee the brand receives the best placements possible.

How did you get into Affiliate Marketing?

I studied Fashion Communication at uni and also worked in freelance journalism, which persuaded me to pursue affiliate marketing when I came across an entry level job at a digital agency. My freelance work combined with my degree gave me a pretty sound understanding of promotional content, strategy and branding, all of which I use on a daily basis.

How did you land the role?

I passed my CV onto a recruitment agency after having found the job advertised online, they passed my details on to the team here at Missguided and within a matter of days I was asked if I wanted to interview. So I travelled down from Newcastle to Manchester and after a successful interview and a presentation I was offered the job!

What’s your advice for anyone looking to get into a similar role?

Gain as much experience as you can outside of university, as ultimately it’s your experience that will set you apart from others. I wasn’t taught digital marketing, let alone affiliate marketing, at university, and there’s so much opportunity within the industry in a whole variety of fields which I think can often be overlooked.

What is your favourite part about the job?

Probably getting to work for a brand I love. Seeing the effect of promotional activity I’ve planned out and worked on from start to finish, as well as working on collaborations with our affiliate bloggers, is also really rewarding.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve worked on?

Our Cyber Weekend project with a selection of top UK and US bloggers was pretty massive, and contributed towards the biggest weekend we’ve seen at Missguided!

What are you looking forward to next at Missguided?

We’ve got loads of exciting projects in the pipeline, as well as expanding our international presence, so there’s lot to look forward to in 2015…
