MG unicorn profiles: our evening dresses buyer| April 27, 2017
Name: Charlotte Brayford
Title at MG: Buyer – evening dresses and Jourdan Dunn
Been at Missguided for: 1 year
About me: I started my buying career as an assistant buyer at George on the knitwear department. Even though I did design at uni, I always knew that it was buying that I wanted to do. I got involved in everything I could, from organising TV ads with the marketing team to presenting to students wanting to get into the fashion industry. I have managed to work my way up quite quickly. I progressed to Junior Buyer in 3 years and then to Buyer in the 4th year. My first buying roll was on the bottoms department at George, slightly different to Missguided bottoms.
I landed my dream job as bottoms buyer at Missguided in March 2016. It was completely different to my previous job. The pace and the amount of newness was completely new to me and I had to learn to adapt very quickly.
The most amazing experience to date has been having the chance to work with Jourdan Dunn. I never thought that when I started my career, that I would be given this opportunity and I have Missguided to thank for this.
After moving to evening dresses this is my newest challenge, the biggest area in the business. Missguided has taught me to push yourself out of your comfort zone and work your tits off to get where you want.

|FIRST JOB OUT OF UNI||Assistant buyer ladies’ knitwear @ George. Even though I did design at uni, I knew that I wanted to go into buying. I posted my CV at GFW and got called for an interview the following week. My drive was 75 miles each way, it was worth the pain to do the career that I love|
|BEST PIECE OF ADVICE||When buying don’t forget the clothes you are buying aren’t necessarily what you like, they are for the customer! Sometimes it is worth taking a risk, even if it’s not the most commercial style!!|

|MOST VALUABLE WORK EXPERIENCE FOR SOCIAL|
Try and get as much experience as possible, even shit places, as it makes you realise when you arrive in a good place.
My most valuable experience at Missguided: getting the chance to buy the Jourdan Dunn collection. The chance to meet and work with a super model is not an experience that you think that you will get when you start as little assistant buyer at the age of 21.
