|FIRST JOB OUT OF UNI|
I’d like to think my first job, though, was my blog. I would spend every spare morning or evening at Uni writing blog posts, taking photos, going to gigs, interviewing bands and writing reviews. It’s something I still love to do when I get a spare hour, but it’s one of the things I’m most proud of.
|BEST PIECE OF ADVICE|
Absorb yourself in social, and get a strong side hustle going. I got my first job out of uni because of my blog, but showing that you’re really interested in social or digital with something like a blog or actively growing your own social accounts, will stand you in good stead and show that you’ve got a knack for content.
Also, start networking on social and get to know the people in the industry. I set up a Twitter list of social industry news sites and people who work in social and who I think are doing really innovative things. I’ll dip into it every day to keep myself in the know with social news as it’s constantly changing and evolving, and also to engage with the top people in the industry. Social is very much what you know AND who you know!
|TOP TIPS FOR BOSSING IT IN SOCIAL||Always tailor your CV to the job you’re going for, and keep your CV to a minimum of two pages. The person who’s hiring has to go through hundreds of CV’s so make yours stand out, whether that’s with a strong design or even something extra like a social rulebook or a content plan.|
|MOST VALUABLE WORK EXPERIENCE FOR SOCIAL||As much as you can is always the best approach, as every job will teach you something new.|
